How to Care for Hand-Embroidered Chikankari Clothes at Home

A genuine handcrafted Chikankari piece is an investment in art. With the right care, your garments can maintain their crisp embroidery, vibrant color, and soft fabric for decades.
Here is a quick guide from our manufacturing experts at Najahat on caring for your traditional wear:

1. Hand Wash is Best
Always wash pure cotton and Mulmul pieces by hand in cold water.
Use a mild liquid detergent meant for delicate clothes. Avoid harsh detergents or bleaching agents.

2. Skip the Machine Spin & Wringing
Never twist or wring hand-embroidered clothes forcefully, as this can pull or snap delicate threads.
Gently press out excess water and lay the garment flat or hang it to drip dry.

3. Dry in the Shade
Direct sunlight can fade natural fabric dyes over time. Always line dry your Chikankari garments in a shady, well-ventilated area.

4. Iron on the Reverse Side
To keep the raised embroidery motifs intact and prevent thread snagging, *always iron your Chikankari clothes on the reverse side* (inside out) using medium heat.

5. Care for Delicate Fabrics
For silk blends, Organza, and Georgette pieces with heavy work, we recommend professional dry cleaning only.
